WEBTOON DISCUSSION:SWEET HOME

Before we start of , I just want to thank everyone as we just hit a 100 views on the blog. A huge thanks to you guys for reading , it's always great to see viewers who are coming back everyday for more content. So yeah , keep reading and sharing the blog , and let's continue the growth of this community. Thank you once again. In light of this milestone I will be starting a new blog series, the first blog of the series will be out in a few days. I am really excited for it as a lot of work has  gone into it , so stay tuned for that.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with webtoons , it's basically manga with digital art instead of hand drawn art. The following image taken from the webtoon "sweet home" will probably make it clear.

So now that everyone has a basic understanding of what webtoons are , let's start talking about sweet home. Sweet home is a horror/thriller webtoon from Youngchan Hwang and Carnby Kim. It follows Hyun a reclusive high school student who has become completely detached to everyone due to his computer addiction. He is forced to move out of his place after his family's death in a car accident, he moves to a cheaper apartment and starts counting his days until he can't afford anymore food. At the same time some sort of monster epidemic starts in the country and Hyun is forced to fight for his survival. Now, to some the story might sound a bit generic but let me assure you that even if it follows some generic tropes , it still is very entertaining and can and will scare you. The webtoon is so well structured that it genuinely creates a sense of fear in you. To be very honest almost none of the horror manga that I have read have genuinely scared me , but this just hits the spot.

The webtoon makes you care for all the characters involved and once you are invested into the characters and immersed in the story , there is no way you are able to get away from the feeling of horror and dread. The art style is top notch and the creators don't hold back in showing any gore or disgustingly creepy visuals. One of the major advantages that horror webtoons have is that it's easier for them to use the "page turn" effectively. For anyone who doesn't know what a page turn is , it's a trick used by horror manga authors to create a jumpscare kind of an effect. They end a page at a highly climactic moment and then make a big horrific image covering almost all of the next page so as to jumpscare you with that image as soon as you turn the page. It's easier to perform this in a webtoon as every page only has a single panel so you don't have to try and build to a  climactic moment and it's easier to fill the whole page before the big jumpscare as , well it's only one image per page so the whole argument of trying to fill a page with random dailogues does not even arise. The page turn used with the incredible art style just makes the webtoon even better. And don't worry , it's not just cheap jumpscares , it also has well set up characters , all the characters are coherent and their conversations and decisions feel relatable and real , which is not the case with many horror anime or manga. There is also considerable amount of character development which I always appreciate. Sweet home is something that is a must read in my opinion and moreover you can legally read webtoons for free  , just download the line webtoon app and read all the webtoons that you want to , and if there are other webtoons that you recommend let me know about them in the comments.

Thanks a lot for reading , follow me on twitter @allaboutanimee for regular manga and anime recommendations and have a nice day.

MANGAKA SPOTLIGHT #1: TAISHI TSUTSUI

Today we will be taking a look at all the manga that Taishi Tsutsui has worked on , I will be talking about each one of them and comparing them as to showcase the journey that the mangaka has been through for the past decade. We will be starting with his first ever manga , Esprit. Esprit is a fantasy , action manga from Taishi Tsutsui , it is set in a world where numerous islands are called "homes" and people of a particular home have little to no knowledge about other homes. These homes are discovered and are kept in check by the agents of the "ocean affairs agency" , from here on I will be referring to these agents as OA agents (ocean affairs agents). These OA agents have certain powers called jinxes which stem from a person's faith. For example ,  if I believe with all my heart that I can cause weather changes then I will gain that power or jinx. The story follows an apprentice OA agent Mio and her friends' adventures , as they explore these hom
