MANGA REVIEW: BURN THE WITCH

Burn the witch is an action , comedy one shot manga from Tite Kubo , for anyone unaware , he is the mangaka for Bleach , so naturally I was excited for this one. But unfortunately it turned out to be pretty disappointing , the story is set in a world where dragons exist in London. These dragons are not visible to people living in front London (or normal London) but only to the people living in reverse London which is an alternate dimension of the city or something. The dragons are kept in control by wingbird witches and the one shot tells a story about two of these witches , Noel and Nini. I'm not gonna lie , at first glance , the story seemed really interesting to me , it instantly gripped me and made me very curious about the one shot.

But , this curiousity was instantly killed by the first few text heavy pages , and I know that this kind of situation was bound to arise considering the mangaka did not really have a lot of time to lay the foundation of the world as it's a one shot , so he had to rely on a lot of text to do it but , I have seen a lot of one shots that  have executed this aspect much better. I think the problem was that when this manga was thought of , it probably was initially supposed to be a full series because the way the story is set up , it really shows a lot of potential for future chapters where reverse London could have been explored in detail and numerous fight scenes between the dragons and the witches could have been portrayed in all their glory , but because this was a one shot , it felt really flat and not enjoyable at all. Or maybe it was supposed to be a one shot from the start but just turned out to be mediocre , in either case , Burn the witch was a disappointing read.

The art style was nothing out of the ordinary and was okay-ish at best. The character designs, especially those of the dragons felt pretty mediocre and nothing special. The characters had nothing unique about them and felt really generic. Overall it was painfully average and very disappointing for me as I was actually looking forward to it. Maybe this was enjoyable for all the Tite Kubo die hard fans out there but as far as my opinion is concerned , it would be better to skip this one.

And for everyone trying to defend all of it's weaknesses by saying that "it was a one shot and this is how one shots are" , no , there are a lot of one shots which are miles better than this one , so don't even think about giving this one a pass just because it was a one shot.

MANGAKA SPOTLIGHT #1: TAISHI TSUTSUI

Today we will be taking a look at all the manga that Taishi Tsutsui has worked on , I will be talking about each one of them and comparing them as to showcase the journey that the mangaka has been through for the past decade. We will be starting with his first ever manga , Esprit. Esprit is a fantasy , action manga from Taishi Tsutsui , it is set in a world where numerous islands are called "homes" and people of a particular home have little to no knowledge about other homes. These homes are discovered and are kept in check by the agents of the "ocean affairs agency" , from here on I will be referring to these agents as OA agents (ocean affairs agents). These OA agents have certain powers called jinxes which stem from a person's faith. For example ,  if I believe with all my heart that I can cause weather changes then I will gain that power or jinx. The story follows an apprentice OA agent Mio and her friends' adventures , as they explore these hom...

WEBTOON REVIEW: LET'S PLAY

Let's play is a romance , comedy webtoon from Mongie. It follows Sam , a socially awkward indie game developer. After her first ever game is poorly reviewed by a famous YouTuber , she starts receiving a lot of hate comments from the fans of the YouTuber which throws her life into a disarray. Further complications occur when that very YouTuber moves to her apartment and that too , the room next to hers. First and foremost , the webtoon is really well written. The author herself follows a lot of "let's play YouTubers" , so she knows how tough their job can be and manages to show this aspect really well. At the same time she , being in the creative field , also understands how hate comments can affect a creators life. This allows her to do justice to both sides of the coin and she is able to justify all the actions that each of these characters take. This strong writing mixed with some brilliant art ensures a great time for the readers. The webtoon also has a fa...
