SOME MANGA FROM THE 90s

Today , I will be talking about three different 90s manga , I will be briefly giving my views on these and then you guys can decide which ones are worth your time.

1. Gunsmith Cats

Gunsmith Cats is an action , drama manga from Kenichi Sonoda and came out in 1990. It follows the adventures of two bounty hunters , Rally Vincent and Minnie May. I will straight up tell you , if you want a story driven , plot heavy master piece , don't even bother with this. The main driving force for this manga is it's light-hearted enjoyment. The interactions between the various characters involved are comical and great to read. The action sequences are nicely drawn and the character designs are well made, especially of the two protagonists. It's nowhere near a masterpiece but it is certainly something that you can just sit back and chill out to. If you are still doubtful then I suggest checking out the OVA of it . It's just three episodes and gives you a feel of the world of this manga.

2. Slam Dunk
Without a doubt the most popular out of the three , Slam Dunk is a basketball manga from Takehiko Inoue and came out in 1990 as well. As per the story , it's just pure and real basketball , it's not like kuroko no basket with dumb shounen power ups , it's balls to the wall basketball , so if you are someone like me who did not enjoy kuroko no basket for it's unrealistic shounen tropes or if you are just a manga fan in general , this one is a must read . With its beautiful artstyle and nicely executed hints of comedy , Slam Dunk really engages its readers and ensures a good time. This manga highly influenced the basketball culture as a whole and truly is a masterpiece , so I urge everyone to give this a read.

3. I"s
For the third manga let's move on over to the romance genre. I"s is a romance , school life manga from Masakazu Katsura and came out in 1997. It follows Seto Ichitaka who has a crush on Yoshizuki Iori , his classmate who is so popular that she even has her own fanclub. The manga revolves around how Ichitaka overcomes his own awkwardness and gets close to Iori. Now , I know what you all are thinking , "this is just another highschool romance" . And let me tell you , yeah it is but only on the surface level. This manga was brought to my attention by none other than theAnimeMan and when I started to read it , I also felt that it's just another highschool romance but it's different in the fact that it keeps it real. The interactions of the characters , there reactions to certain events , all feel real and this makes the characters compelling , so if you want a romance where two perfect characters end up together , this is not for you. The characters make mistakes and some stupid decisions but that is what makes them coherent. But this fact can also act as a weakness , especially in the initial few chapters as some of the stuff that the main protagonist ends up doing can and will get a bit annoying. The artstyle is very unique and another plus point of the manga. While it's certainly not the best romance manga in my opinion , it's surely something that you guys should give a read to.

MANGAKA SPOTLIGHT #1: TAISHI TSUTSUI

Today we will be taking a look at all the manga that Taishi Tsutsui has worked on , I will be talking about each one of them and comparing them as to showcase the journey that the mangaka has been through for the past decade. We will be starting with his first ever manga , Esprit. Esprit is a fantasy , action manga from Taishi Tsutsui , it is set in a world where numerous islands are called "homes" and people of a particular home have little to no knowledge about other homes. These homes are discovered and are kept in check by the agents of the "ocean affairs agency" , from here on I will be referring to these agents as OA agents (ocean affairs agents). These OA agents have certain powers called jinxes which stem from a person's faith. For example ,  if I believe with all my heart that I can cause weather changes then I will gain that power or jinx. The story follows an apprentice OA agent Mio and her friends' adventures , as they explore these hom...

WEBTOON REVIEW: LET'S PLAY

Let's play is a romance , comedy webtoon from Mongie. It follows Sam , a socially awkward indie game developer. After her first ever game is poorly reviewed by a famous YouTuber , she starts receiving a lot of hate comments from the fans of the YouTuber which throws her life into a disarray. Further complications occur when that very YouTuber moves to her apartment and that too , the room next to hers. First and foremost , the webtoon is really well written. The author herself follows a lot of "let's play YouTubers" , so she knows how tough their job can be and manages to show this aspect really well. At the same time she , being in the creative field , also understands how hate comments can affect a creators life. This allows her to do justice to both sides of the coin and she is able to justify all the actions that each of these characters take. This strong writing mixed with some brilliant art ensures a great time for the readers. The webtoon also has a fa...
