HANEBADO: WHAT WENT WRONG

When the first episode of Hanebado aired , I very confidently declared it to be a contender for the anime of the season. Now that the show is seven episodes in , I don't think of it to be anything more than average. Today I will be sharing my views on Hanebado and what in my opinion is the reason the show's quality declined over the span of seven weeks. Before going into this , I just want to point out that as I have already talked about the series before , I am not going to be giving any brief summary for the story of the anime in this blog. So , if you guys want to be filled in , you can check my previous blog here .  Now , let's rewind the clock back to the first episode. The reason why I liked that episode so much was because the show presented it's story as to be focussed around Nagisa and also included the mystery of Hanesaki's past. But after the second episode , the show did this weird thing where it pushed Nagisa onto the sidelines and switched

WEEKLY ANIME ROUNDUP

Welcome everyone to the weekly anime roundup , here I will be talking about stuff that took place in the anime industry over the past week. I will not be covering every little thing that happened over the week , but things that I feel to be substantial and worth mentioning. UNSHŌ ISHIZUKA PASSES AWAY AT 67 Unshō Ishizuka , who has voiced many iconic characters like Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop and Mr. Satan from Dragon Ball Super passes away at the age of 67. This person has been a major part of my anime fandom because of his brilliant voice acting in some of my favourite shows and I will always remember him for his contributions in the anime industry. It is also extremely heartbreaking to see some people memeing his death. I understand that there will be people who are not familiar with his work and thus might not care about this news but still joking about someone's death is just insensitive and distasteful. So , yeah check out some stuff that he has contributed in an

DOUJINSHI CORNER: DEAR MY TEACHER

Welcome everyone to the Doujinshi corner , here I will be talking about any Doujinshi manga that have caught my eye. For anyone unaware , Doujinshi manga are those which are not serialised in any magazines but are individually published by the author. Today , I will be taking a look at " Dear My Teacher" , a romance , shoujo ai manga written and drawn by Ajiichi . As the name suggests , the manga follows a teacher , Kaoru , and her student , Isechi , who end up falling for each other. So , naturally this relationship is pretty conflicted , after all the two involved are a teacher and  a student. The mangaka does a fine job of showcasing this conflict through the perspective of both the people involved , this conflicted relationship that the manga presents in the first few chapters managed to get me immersed and invested in the story. The art and character designs are also pretty imressive and add to the appeal of the manga. But , this does not mean that it does not h

WEEKLY ANIME ROUNDUP

Welcome everyone to the weekly anime roundup , here I will be talking about stuff that took place in the anime industry over the past week. I will not be covering every little thing that happened over the week , but things that I feel to be substantial and worth mentioning. VINLAND SAGA ANIME TO PREMIERE IN JANUARY 2019 What a month January is turning out to be for anime. Vinland Saga adds to the list of my highly anticipated anime that are coming out in January. Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga is probably the best historical manga I have read to date and I am really hyped for the anime adaptation. If you have not checked out the manga yet then I highly recommend you to do so. SWORD ART ONLINE: ALICIZATION SET TO PREMIERE ON SEPTEMBER 15 Aniplex of America have announced a September 15 premiere for the SAO alicization arc. The show will be available on Japanese TV in October. Until a few weeks ago , I was thinking about skipping this one as I didn't really

LETS DISCUSS: POKÉMON SUN AND MOON

Pokémon sun and moon is the newest installment in the Pokémon anime franchise. Before starting , I just want to point out that I have only watched the anime up until the second generation and the same goes for the game. The reason why I stopped watching Pokémon is that as I grew older , I started to feel that Pokémon has no value as an anime other than the nostalgia factor. I rewatched the first generation anime and if you remove the nostalgia factor , I did not enjoy the experience at all. As for why I dropped the game , well I just got bored with them. So , when sun and moon came out , I dismissed it as another installment in the long running saga of boring Pokémon shows , but I recently heard from a lot of people that this season has a more slice of life feel to it. This made me want to watch the anime as firstly , I like slice of lives and secondly , I thought that it might be a nice change from the original boring style of story telling where Ash and his friends travel for ag

ANIME DISCUSSION: OVERLORD

Today I will be briefly giving my opinions on the overlord franchise. I will talk about all the seasons separately and try to justify the amount of praise or hate that they received. Basically I  will just be talking about how I feel about the series as a whole. Overlord is without a doubt one of the most popular anime in recent times , back when it's first season came out in 2015 , it instantly charmed its audience with incredible writing , brilliant character designs and arguably the best soundtrack in anime history. The way it presented it's story to the audience was very gripping and one of the main reasons why I feel that it stood out in a sea of isekai anime is that it's main protagonist felt very real and his character was believable. The protagonist was supposed to be an office worker in real life and the way he interacted in the fantasy world of overlord sold that point really well. Another great thing about the anime was it's unique style of world bu

WEBTOON REVIEW: LET'S PLAY

Let's play is a romance , comedy webtoon from Mongie. It follows Sam , a socially awkward indie game developer. After her first ever game is poorly reviewed by a famous YouTuber , she starts receiving a lot of hate comments from the fans of the YouTuber which throws her life into a disarray. Further complications occur when that very YouTuber moves to her apartment and that too , the room next to hers. First and foremost , the webtoon is really well written. The author herself follows a lot of "let's play YouTubers" , so she knows how tough their job can be and manages to show this aspect really well. At the same time she , being in the creative field , also understands how hate comments can affect a creators life. This allows her to do justice to both sides of the coin and she is able to justify all the actions that each of these characters take. This strong writing mixed with some brilliant art ensures a great time for the readers. The webtoon also has a fa

ANIME REVIEW: SWEETNESS AND LIGHTNING

Sweetness and lightning is a slice of life anime from TMS Entertainment. It is an adaptation of a manga of the same name and is written and drawn by Gido Amagakure. It follows a teacher , Inuzuka who , after his wife's death has been taking care of his daughter Tsumugi on his own. As he is not good at cooking , he and Tsumugi usually eat packaged , ready made meals from the supermarket. A certain turn of events result in him visiting one of his student's restaurant. The student's parents have been divorced and as her mother is really busy with work , she tends to eat dinner at her place all by herself. After learning this , Inuzuka and Tsumugi start visiting her restaurant and cooking food together.  The anime is really enjoyable and gives a lot of "feel good" vibes , it has well executed animations along with some pretty good writing. The soundtrack is also really good and matches well with the setting. It is an absolute treat to watch , but only up unti

WEEKLY ANIME ROUNDUP

Welcome everyone to the weekly anime roundup , here I will be talking about stuff that took place in the anime industry over the past week. I will not be covering every little thing that happened over the week , but things that I feel to be substantial and worth mentioning. THE NEW CODE GEASS INSTALLMENT IS GOING TO BE A MOVIE INSTEAD OF A FULL SEASON. The much awaited third season of Code Geass will now be released in the form of a movie in February 2019 . As far as I am concerned , I don't really care if the new installment is a movie or a full season. I feel Code Geass deserves to be left alone as it provided a really good , well rounded story and a new installment would only ruin the series. So , to me it does not make a difference if they ruin the series through a movie or a season. Now , by this I don't mean that I want the movie to be bad , I really want it to blow me away , but since the new installment was announced , I can't shake off the feeling that

WILL THE ISEKAI TREND EVER DIE ?

Isekai is one of the most popular and loved genre of anime and has received a major boom in recent years. For anyone who is not aware , isekai anime is basically an anime where the main protagonist is transported to another world , so examples of this genre are anime like no game no life , konosuba , re zero and many more. This boom can be easily seen by the number of isekai anime that come out every season , in the past two years , almost all the studios have tried their hand at it in hopes of making a hit by riding on the genre's popularity. But recently , the decline in these anime is pretty clear. This decline is clearly due to an oversaturated market , a lot of people nowadays skip anime from this genre as they perceive them to be "just another isekai". To be very honest that is very understandable , people have watched so many isekai , good and bad that at this point everyone of them look mostly the same. All of the isekai coming out nowadays have a very si
