WHICH IS BETTER: DIGITAL MANGA OR THE PHYSICAL COPY

The world of manga has experienced a major change in recent years with the introduction of digital manga. Now you don't need to go to a bookstore to buy a physical copy , while as for me and a lot of other people who belong to countries where manga is not sold in bookstores , we don't need to order a physical copy online and wait a week for it to be shipped. We can buy digital copies of it and start reading instantly. So, in this day and age have the physical copies lost all of  their purpose? Is their no use of them anymore?  Welcome everyone , today I will be trying to provide a satisfying answer to that question , so sit back and enjoy reading. Let's start off by discussing the pros of digital manga. Digital manga is without a doubt far more convenient from its physical counterpart. I have already mentioned the  advantages that it has during the purchasing process , but another major plus point of it is , convenience during travelling. As a manga fan whene

WEEKLY ANIME ROUNDUP

Welcome everyone to the weekly anime roundup , here I will be discussing stuff that took place in the anime industry last week. To make it clear , I will not be talking about every little thing that happened but only stuff that I am interested in or I feel you all would be interested in. And I know that I should be doing this roundup at the end of the week on Sunday , but Sunday is my day off and I intend to keep it that way so please bare with me on this. Now that that's out of the way , let's begin. CHARACTER DESIGNS FOR THE PROMISED NEVERLAND ANIME REVEALED The character designs for Norman , Don , Gilda and Ray have been revealed by the studio. Rumors say that the character designs are handled by Masayoshi Tanaka , who did the designs for Darling in the franxx. I think the character designs were fine in DITF for the most part so I don't have anything to complain on that front. I am very excited for this anime as I love the manga and I am looking forward to how

ANIME REVIEW: AMAGI BRILLIANT PARK

Amagi Brilliant park is a fantasy , comedy anime from Kyoto Animation , it follows a narcissistic high schooler Kanie Seiya who is invited to and asked to manage an amusement park called Amagi Brilliant by his classmate Sento Isuzu. This is a run down amusement park that has long lost its popularity , Kanie at first refuses the offer but later finds out that the employees of this park are from maple land , which is a magical place and the only reason why these maple landers are able to exist is by the energy released by the people while they are having fun. To be able to meet these energy demands the park needs to attract 500,000 visitors inside three months . Thus ,  Kanie accepts this job in order to help these maple landers. When I went into this , I was not expecting much but just after a few minutes into the first episode, I realised that this was not just another basic fantasy show. The story , that I initially thought would turn out to be boring , instantly gripped me

SHIKI: THE APPEAL OF CONFLICTED CHARACTERS

Shiki is a psychological horror anime from Studio Daume , it is set in a small village Sotoba. The anime starts by introducing us to Megumi Shimizu , a young girl who wants to leave the village and make a career for herself in the big city. She is obsessed with Natsuno Yuuki , a guy who has recently moved to the village from a city, but Natsuno doesn't seem to care at all about Megumi.. The story starts with a family moving into a mansion close to the village. When Megumi learns that the family has moved in from the city , she cannot stop herself from meeting with them. A day after the meeting , she catches a high fever , and suddenly bizzare incidents start taking place in the village. Before going any further , I want to warn everyone for spoilers , so if you have not watched Shiki , I highly recommend you to do so and also consider yourselves warned. For anyone who has watched it or doesn't care about spoilers , sit back and enjoy reading. So where were we , oh yeah

MANGAKA SPOTLIGHT #1: TAISHI TSUTSUI

Today we will be taking a look at all the manga that Taishi Tsutsui has worked on , I will be talking about each one of them and comparing them as to showcase the journey that the mangaka has been through for the past decade. We will be starting with his first ever manga , Esprit. Esprit is a fantasy , action manga from Taishi Tsutsui , it is set in a world where numerous islands are called "homes" and people of a particular home have little to no knowledge about other homes. These homes are discovered and are kept in check by the agents of the "ocean affairs agency" , from here on I will be referring to these agents as OA agents (ocean affairs agents). These OA agents have certain powers called jinxes which stem from a person's faith. For example ,  if I believe with all my heart that I can cause weather changes then I will gain that power or jinx. The story follows an apprentice OA agent Mio and her friends' adventures , as they explore these hom

MANGA REVIEW: SHOKUGEKI NO SANJI

Alright , we have been blessed with another one shot this week. This time it's from Yuto Tsukuda, Shun Saeki and Yuki Morisaki , the authors of Food Wars ( Shokugeki no Soma ). The one shot is titled , Shokugeki no Sanji and as the title suggests , it is about Sanji from One Piece . Now that's a crossover that I am on board with. The events in the manga take place before Sanji meets Luffy and is about the meeting between Sanji and a renowned food critic , Savarin.  Now , because this one shot is about characters that are already established , it does not need to focus on providing any backstory at all. In the last blog I talked about this point while discussing Burn the Witch , which was forced to rely on text heavy pages to set up it's world but Shokugeki no Sanji does not have to do that as it's world is already well established , this worked as a major advantage for the manga as now the authors could give their full attention to make the story interesting wi

MANGA REVIEW: BURN THE WITCH

Burn the witch is an action , comedy one shot manga from Tite Kubo , for anyone unaware , he is the mangaka for Bleach , so naturally I was excited for this one. But unfortunately it turned out to be pretty disappointing , the story is set in a world where dragons exist in London. These dragons are not visible to people living in front London (or normal London) but only to the people living in reverse London which is an alternate dimension of the city or something. The dragons are kept in control by wingbird witches and the one shot tells a story about two of these witches , Noel and Nini. I'm not gonna lie , at first glance , the story seemed really interesting to me , it instantly gripped me and made me very curious about the one shot.  But , this curiousity was instantly killed by the first few text heavy pages , and I know that this kind of situation was bound to arise considering the mangaka did not really have a lot of time to lay the foundation of the world as it

Kohei Horikoshi receiving hate for the latest MHA chapter ?

Kohei Horikoshi , the mangaka of My Hero Academia has been receiving a lot of criticism recently regarding the latest chapter of the manga. The backlash has been really intense with people sending actual threats to the mangaka. First and foremost I would just like to point out that it is not right to send threats to anyone in the creative field for any of their work. It is fine to voice your opinion if you don't feel that their work is compelling but in no case can you send threats to someone. Now , I guess it's time to provide some context , but before that I would like to warn anyone who is not caught up with the manga for spoilers as I will be briefly taking about the latest chapter , so consider yourselves warned. In the latest chapter Endeavour's battle with the weird black coloured nomu who can fly comes to a close , this fight was really intense and was portrayed as somewhat of a redemption arc for Endeavour's character and he was shown to now step in the

Initial D : The Art Of Engagement

Initial d is a seinen , sports anime from Studio Gallop and Studio Comet and came out in 1998 ,  it follows Takumi Fujiwara , a high-schooler who helps out his dad by doing tofu deliveries in his Toyota AE86. He regularly passes through Mount Akina at night during his deliveries and in the process becomes a great driver who knows the mountain pass like the back of his hand , on one such night he is spotted by a highly coveted street racer . This meeting flings him into the world of street racing but is he up for the challenge. If any of you are unaware , at the time initial d came out , it was a cultural phenomenon , not only was it a well celebrated anime but it popularised drifting to such an extent that the Japanese government had to improve their laws against street racing due to the sudden increase in the number of people who wanted to learn the art of drifting and got themselves injured in the process. It has left a huge impact on the animation industry as a whole and eve

ARE SLICE OF LIFE ANIME BORING ?

As far as my own opinion is concerned , I have mentioned before that I have a soft spot for slice of life anime , so obviously I am against the statement that slice of life anime are boring But today , I will keep an open mind and talk about reasons for which slice of life anime can be boring. Before going into this , I just want to state that me having a soft spot for slice of life does not mean that I like every slice of life out there , there are always good shows and bad shows in a particular genre. Now that that's out of the way let's talk about why slice of life can be boring. One of the major aspects that I look for in a slice of life is that , is the anime able to provide a sense of progression through its character development. To illustrate this point let's take two slice of life anime , Yama no Susume and Comic girls. Out of the two , Yama no Susume is much more appreciated because of its character development. In the anime with every mountain that

ANIME REVIEW: HYOUKA

Hyouka is an iyashikei anime from Kyoto animation , for anyone unfamiliar with iyashikei, it's a genre of anime that have a healing effect. Basically anime that give you the "feel good" vibes , naturally this genre tends to be very subjective as different people have different opinions on anime that have a healing effect for them. An anime that gives me those "feel good" vibes may not do the same for you and vice versa.  As far as hyouka is concerned , it follows a group of highschoolers , Ibara , Satoshi , Chitanda , and Oreki , who are also the only members in the classics club of their school. Although the four have equal screen time and equal amount of character development and character depth , Oreki seems to be the main protagonist. He is a lazy person who lives by the motto " If I don't have to do it , I won't. If I have to do it I'll make it quick". He also possesses a talent for making deductions , now the show doesn't go a

SOME MANGA FROM THE 90s

Today , I will be talking about three different 90s manga , I will be briefly giving my views on these and then you guys can decide which ones are worth your time. 1. Gunsmith Cats Gunsmith Cats is an action , drama manga from Kenichi Sonoda and came out in 1990 . It follows the adventures of two bounty hunters , Rally Vincent and Minnie May. I will straight up tell you , if you want a story driven , plot heavy master piece , don't even bother with this. The main driving force for this manga is it's light-hearted enjoyment. The interactions between the various characters involved are comical and great to read. The action sequences are nicely drawn and the character designs are well made, especially of the two protagonists. It's nowhere near a masterpiece but it is certainly something that you can just sit back and chill out to. If you are still doubtful then I suggest checking out the OVA of it . It's just three episodes and gives you a feel of the world of

BLACK CLOVER: ANIME VS MANGA

Now that we have seen how big of a disaster the black clover anime was , I guess it's time to compare it to the manga which is actually considered to be good. Let's start off with the manga , the black clover manga came out shortly after My hero academia and it's slightly more rustic feel was appreciated by all , so when the anime adaptation was about to come out , it was marketed as the "new king of shounen". To be honest why wouldn't it be marketed like that , after all the manga was very well received , then why do people say that the anime is painfully generic and clichéd but no one raised this issue when they were reading the same story in the manga? The simple answer is pacing. As far as the manga is concerned , the author was well aware of the painfully generic tropes that he was using in the first few chapters so he very cleverly made the manga fast paced , this allowed him to quickly set up the protagonist by using these generic tropes and b

FIRST IMPRESSION: YURAGI-SOU NO YUUNA-SAN

Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san is an ecchi , harem , romance anime from studio Xebec. It follows a homeless high-schooler Kogarashi who has an ability to exorcise ghosts , he finds a very cheap Inn to live , the only downside is that the inn is haunted , but considering the fact that the ghost is  as sexy as the other female tenants of the inn , I'd say at the end of the day it's an upside. Before I start of ,  when I watched the first episode , there was no uncensored version available , I don't know if there is one now but if it isn't and you guys don't want to wait , I highly recommend the manga as it is one of the best echhi manga I have read to date. And just for the record the manga might be too echhi for some , so just keep that in mind. Now , let's talk about the anime , the first episode was pretty good , the echhi scenes were well done , voice acting was decent , comedy was nicely executed and there were also a couple of heartfelt moments . So ov

FIRST IMPRESSION: HAPPY SUGAR LIFE

Happy sugar life is a drama , horror anime from studio Ezo'la , it follows a high-schooler Matsuzaka Satou who is known for dating and sleeping with anyone, basically she is too easy. But this lifestyle of hers ends when she falls in love with a young girl Shio , and she would do anything if it means to able to live with her happily forever. And anything also includes killing , yup we have a yandere on our hands boys. So it goes without saying that if you feel uncomfortable watching a yandere going about her business or watching a high-schooler love a grade schooler , you might want to skip this one , but still I would atleast recommend everyone of you to give the first episode a watch as both these aspects are not that prominent ( atleast in the first episode). For everyone else it's straight up a must watch. The moment I started watching the episode , the opening gripped me with its beautiful music and amazing visuals. The animations and writing are perfect and fit the to

MANGA REVIEW: KOMI-SAN WA KOMYUSHOU DESU

Komi-san wa komyushou desu is a comedy ,  school life manga from Tomohito Oda. Komi-san is this elegant schoolgirl who everyone considers as somewhat of a cold beauty and think of her as someone out of their league. No one considers themselves worthy enough to even talk to her , in reality Komi-san is just a socially awkward teen who herself finds it difficult to spark a conversation with others and due to all the special treatment from her classmates she tends to stay lonely all the time . Tadano Shigeo , a classmate of her realises this and thus helps Komi-san to grow out of this awkwardness by introducing her to different people in the class. It is a very sweet and charming coming of age story with light hearted comedy and romance elements as well. It is just heartwarming to see Komi-san tackle her social awkwardness and slowly get past it. All the characters are set up really well , none of the characters are annoying or worthless , everyone brings something to the tabl

MANGA REVIEW: NEW GAME

New game is a comedy slice of life manga by Shoutarou Tokunou, it follows the daily life of Aoba Suzukaze , a fresh highschool graduate as she joins a game company as a 3D artist. The main selling point of the manga is how unique and cute each of it's characters are . Just look at the pages below and you will instantly fall in love with the characters. For anyone unfamiliar with 4koma manga, On each page , the 4 panels on the right are read first and then the 4 panels on the left. As you may have noticed , it is a 4 koma manga which tend to work pretty well with the slice of life genre. The art style is really good and the interactions between the various characters give the manga a certain charm while keeping the conversations real and believable. The character designs are top notch , each of them have their own motivations , ambitions and challenges. All of them have different interests and outlook towards life and this diversity ensures a great time for th
